Malteser Hospitaldienst

The „MALTESER Hospitaldienst Austria“ (MHDA) is the hospitaller service of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta’s grand priory in Austria, in our Mission’s host country.

With more than 1.500 active members, the MHDA is Austria’s largest – solely consisting of volunteer workers  – Emergency Medical Service (EMS) in Austria and is a service of public pre-hospital emergency healthcare, including (but not limited to) ambulance services.

Headquartered in Vienna, Austria, and founded in 1956 during and because of the Hungarian Revolution the MHDA became a significant provider of healthcare and specialized voluntary services for people with disabilities of all ages.

Today the MHDA is active in all states and provinces of Austria and its members are also available for worldwide deployment during natural disasters such as the L’Aquila earthquake of the year 2009.
